I have been honoured to accept an invitation from Africa Network for Animal Welfare to be a speaker at the 1st International Pan African Animal Welfare Alliance (PAAWA) Conference 2013, which will be held on 2-4 September 2013 in Nairobi, Kenya.
The conference promises to offer a rich array of topics, discussions, guests, presenters and participants from all over the world. Presentations will cover a wide range of animal welfare subjects, including farm and working animals, wildlife and environment conservation, companion animals and animals used in educational experiments, testing, research and entertainment. These will encompass cross-cutting issues such as policy and legislation, research and testing, fundraising, anti-poaching strategies, animal welfare education, good agricultural practices and climate change – and much, much more.
My presentation, ‘Trade: threat or opportunity for animal welfare’, will be given on Monday 2 September, and I am grateful to the organisers for scheduling it immediately after the opening session. Hopefully, this will be an opportunity to engage a larger number of African farmers and private companies in a productive discussion on how to improve animal welfare in the continent using the tools of national and international trade.
Conference registration is ongoing. On the PAAWA website you will find the conference registration form. The registration deadline is Wednesday 14 August 2013.
English-French translation will be available at the conference.
