The first edition of this book was published in Mexico in 2010. It was so well received that a second edition is now planned for the end of 2012.
I was honoured to accept the invitation of its main editor, Professor Daniel Mota Rojas of the Autonomous Metropolitan University (UAM) of Mexico City, to write a chapter on Animal Welfare and International Trade for this second edition.
As the poster on this page explains, the editors have managed to bring together a group of over 40 specialists from eight countries, including Chile, Brazil, USA, Mexico, Spain, Italy/UK (i.e. myself), Uruguay and Argentina, who guarantee the scientific quality of the work. Most contributors come from universities in different parts of the world and work as professors of animal welfare and meat science. The second edition of this book will be an exceptionally important addition to reference works for specialists in this field, the meat industries and others with an interest in it. It will also be very useful as a textbook for students of Veterinary Medicine, Agronomy and Animal Husbandry, sciences in whose educational programmes the issue of animal welfare is included with increased frequency.
When the book is published a notice will be posted on AnimalWelfareAndTrade.
