While the petition has gone past 750,000 signatures, support for achieving an end to long-distance journeys for animals sent for slaughter in the EU is growing in the European Parliament too.
50 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have already decided to voice their support for the campaign by signing the petition, and many of them have also had their photo taken holding the 8hours poster. You can see the updated list of supportive MEPs and their photos or videos on the dedicated page of the website.

The European Commission is soon expected to publish its report on the effects of Regulation 1/2005 ‘on the protection of animals during transport’. That will generate a new discussion about whether the present rules are compatible with animal welfare needs.
One million signatures are expected to be presented to the European Commission by the end of this year.
Please sign online at http://www.8hours.eu/ and ask your friends and contacts to support 8hours too. On the 8hours home page you will find petition forms to print out, available in 16 languages.
